Brookhurst-342

The Arts play a fundamental role in the education of the ‘whole child’. Your child will engage in activities which involve creating, performing, presenting and responding to the whole spectrum of arts subjects – and have fun too!

Dance

Children experience a variety of dances within class lessons. They have opportunities to respond to music and create their own dance or use dance as a way to extend topic ideas that are being covered in the classroom.

We have a maypole so children are also able to learn some of our own traditional dances. There is a dance club who have had the opportunity to perform in a theatre for a charity concert.

Art

Art enables children to learn about their world and become visually literate; their experience of art enriches their lives. Children are encouraged to experiment with a wide range of materials and to take pleasure in the creative process.

Music

Music tuition for a range of instruments is provided in school by peripatetic teachers from the County Music Service. The instruments currently on offer include recorder, keyboard, flute, clarinet, violin, viol, cello and brass. Instruments are available on loan in the first instance, for many instruments. Costs vary depending on whether children have individual or group lessons. Further details can be obtained from the school office.

The school also boasts an orchestra, comprising staff and pupils, which meets on Thursday mornings before school. We’re very pleased that Mrs Carpenter, who retired at the end of the summer term, will be returning each week to continue her long association with the orchestra.
