Brookhurst Primary School
A place to think and grow

Clubs and activities

We believe there’s more to school than school!  We offer a range of clubs in school break-times and in out of school hours, and we encourage the children to create their own clubs… we even have a “Finger-Skating Club” run by enthusiastic pupils!

There are lots of opportunities for sport, run both by the teaching staff and by outside groups. Our aim is to provide sporting opportunities for all children and to show them that sport can be fun.

We have links with the local tennis club and the LEA Leisure Services team, who run football, general sports skills and tennis activities at different times during the year. Brookhurst has a long tradition of participation in the Central Warwickshire Cross Country League, which leads on to the County Championships in the spring. There is also an athletics club during the summer term, open to all junior age children, from which we select our team for the area championships.

Music tuition for a range of instruments is provided in school by peripatetic teachers from the County Music Service. The instruments currently on offer include recorder, keyboard, flute, clarinet, violin, viol, cello and brass. Instruments are available on loan in the first instance, for many instruments. Costs vary depending on whether children have individual or group lessons. Further details can be obtained from the school office.

The school also boasts a choir led by Miss Honey and an orchestra, comprising staff and pupils, which meets on Thursday mornings before school. We’re very pleased that Mrs Carpenter, who retired at the end of the summer term, will be returning each week to continue her long association with the orchestra.
